The Downeast Sunrise Trail, an 86 mile long, multi-use trail, is under construction from Washington Junction in Hancock, Maine to Ayers Junction in Ayers, Maine. The two-mile stretch of rail with trail from Ellsworth to Washington Junction is proposed to be built in 2009.

The Ellsworth Shared Use Path, a 1.3 mile long, 8-foot wide, paved, bicycle/pedestrian, rail-with-trail is proposed from Route 179 in Ellsworth Falls to Birch Avenue near downtown Ellsworth. This trail is also proposed by MDOT to be built in 2009.
